Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced the MPLAB® XC Unified Compiler License to provide an efficient method for managing multiple licenses for its MPLAB® XC8, XC16, XC-DSC, and XC32 C compilers. This solution consolidates the required licenses to decrease overhead and enhance flexibility, scalability, and ease of use, addressing the financial pressures and administrative burdens associated with purchasing and managing separate software access models for each compiler.
The unified system is designed to adapt to evolving development needs, offering multiple tiers to accommodate expanding teams. Workstation licenses can be installed and executed on up to three host computers for use by a single engineer. Network server licenses permit installation on a server accessible by any machine on the network, one at a time. Subscription licenses are akin to workstation licenses and can be renewed monthly. Multi-seat network licenses allow simultaneous access by multiple machines or users.
"Developers typically need to purchase a separate license for each compiler they use, which can be both complex and costly," stated Rodger Richey, Microchip's vice president of development systems and university programs. "Our objective with the MPLAB XC Unified Compiler License is to simplify the use of Microchip's tools. The unified license offers an efficient and cost-effective solution that enables teams to concentrate on innovation and accelerate the product development process."
The MPLAB XC compiler aids in streamlining the design process with a compatible suite of compiler, debugger, and programmer toolchains. These tools are compatible with the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), MPLAB Xpress IDE, MPLAB Integrated Programming Environment (IPE), and MPLAB extensions for VS Code®. These compilers support Linux®, macOS®, and Windows® operating systems, allowing designers to conduct embedded development on their preferred platform.
