Murata – Ultra-compact rotary position sensor could be smallest available

Murata has announced what it considers to be the world's smallest rotary position sensor. The SVM4 series measures only 4mm x 4.5mm x 2mm, which is about one-eighth the size of Murata's previous position sensor SV03. Despite its small size, SVM4 still exhibits +/- 2% linearity, suitable for a variety of space-constrained applications, such as finger joint controllers in humanoid robots, or angle control in very compact spaces, such as In the radio control model and game console controller. Effective rotation angle is 240 degrees, usable temperature range is -40C to + 85C, and it can be used in most working environments. Other potential applications for SVM4 include use in wearable devices such as headsets and hearing aids, or as lens / iris feedback sensors in compact digital cameras. The company said that mass production is scheduled to begin in August 2015.
