Texas Instruments offers linear regulators with low dropout rates

The UC385 is a linear regulator with a low drop-out rate that provides a fast response to rapid load changes. Combined with its precise on-board reference, the UC385 excels at driving both GTL and BTL buses. Due to its rapid response to load transients, the total capacitance required to decoupage the regulator's output can be significantly reduced compared to a standard LDO linear regulator.

At 5-A loads (0°C to 100°C), the maximum exit voltage (VIN to VOUT) is only 490 mV, typically 350 mV. The onboard bandgap reference is stable at temperature and scales the 1.2V input to the internal power amplifier. The UC385 is available at a fixed output voltage of 1.5V, 2.1V or 2.5V. The adjustable version of the output voltage can be set with two external resistors. If the external resistance is omitted, the output voltage defaults to 1.2V.
