Advanced Energy, Inc. - a global leader in highly engineered precision power conversion, measurement and control solutions - the Artesyn brand of Advanced Energy introduces the new AIF42 AC/DC converter, expanding AE's use in industrial, robotics and 5G Influence in the telecommunications market. The new converter reduces system size, offers best-in-class conversion efficiencies of up to 93 percent, and improves reliability by minimizing the need for external components.
The AIF42 full-brick modules are rated at 500W continuous power and feature integrated functionality for ease of use, rapid application design and rapid time-to-market. Integrated features include proprietary internal inrush current limiting, which saves space, reduces overall system cost and improves reliability by eliminating external components required to provide inrush current protection. In addition, the 10V auxiliary output enables low-power auxiliary circuits to be powered directly from the module without the need for an AC/DC power converter.
"This new modular power supply from Advanced Energy is designed for applications that require high performance and reliable operation in harsh environments," said Joe Voyles, vice president of marketing for Advanced Energy's industrial power conversion products. "The new AIF42 features industry-leading efficiency, It simplifies and speeds up application design and minimizes the overall cost of materials by providing application-focused built-in functionality.”
The converters operate with high efficiency over a wide load range, which reduces energy consumption and minimizes heat dissipation. The design of the modules is optimized for I.P. containment applications and enclosure systems in high contamination environments that require solutions for thermal bonding and contact cooling with cold walls or heat sinks. As a result, 100% of the available output power is still available at baseplate temperatures up to 100ºC.
PMBus™ control and monitoring enables designers to optimize power supply operation based on the specific needs of the target application. This connectivity can also be used to obtain information on power and system health during field operations.
The AIF42 full brick module is suitable for a wide universal input range of 90~264VAC, and can provide a nominal isolated output of 12V with a rated load of 0~42A. An external hold-up function can be achieved by adding the recommended capacitors to the HVDC port of the module. For applications that require two units to operate in parallel, active current sharing and start-up synchronization simplifies solution implementation.
