As the EV and autonomous vehicle markets grow, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) face increasing application complexity and the need for AUTOSAR, ISO 26262 compliant functional safety and reliable solutions. To support automotive developers in designing scalable applications for future technologies while meeting the latest automotive regulatory requirements, Microchip Technology Inc.announced the availability of a comprehensive AUTOSAR-ready dsPIC33C digital signal controller (DSC) centered Ecosystem that enables accelerated development and high-level system optimization while reducing total system cost.

Microchip has been expanding its broad dsPIC33C DSC portfolio to cover the large memory segment with the introduction of the new ISO 26262 compliant dsPIC33CK1024MP7xx family. This new family of dsPIC33C DSCs has 1 MB of flash memory and supports running a variety of automotive software such as AUTOSAR, OS, MCAL drivers, ISO 26262 functional safety diagnostics and safety libraries. The dsPIC33 DSC product family also includes a high-performance central processing unit (CPU) with deterministic response and specialized peripherals for automotive, advanced sensing and control, digital power and motor control applications.

"The AUTOSAR-ready dsPIC33C DSC enables designers to meet robust automotive application requirements by implementing AUTOSAR-based applications, functional safety goals and safety use cases in a single microcontroller (MCU)," said Joe Thomsen, vice president of Microchip's 16-bit microcontroller business unit. , enabling a high level of system optimization. This opens up broad opportunities for designers who want to work with Microchip, but also expand into electric vehicles and advanced sensing and control applications.”

The benefit of adopting AUTOSAR-ready devices is that customers can improve risk and complexity management while reducing development time through reusability. Customers who have previously designed bare metal or non-AUTOSAR automotive applications and are now adopting AUTOSAR can scale by staying within the dsPIC33C DSC ecosystem and continuing to take advantage of Microchip's value-added solutions, customer support and the product benefits of the new AUTOSAR-ready dsPIC33C DSCs . The AUTOSAR ecosystem for dsPIC33C DSCs includes Vector's MICROSAR Classic, KPIT Technologies Ltd.'s KSAR OS, and Microchip's ASPICE and ASIL B compliant MCAL drivers.

Matthias Kaestner, Vice President of Microchip's Automotive Products Business Unit, said: "Together with our partners, we provide an integrated solution to simplify development for automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. This integrated solution provides insight into AUTOSAR-based development , which simplifies the evaluation of ECU projects using AUTOSAR 4.3.x and enables customers to quickly familiarize themselves with AUTOSAR-ready dsPIC33 DSC-based systems.”

Microchip has expanded its functional safety package including FMEDA reports, safety manuals and diagnostic libraries to cover ISO 26262 compliant dsPIC33CK1024MP7xx DSCs. These AUTOSAR-ready dsPIC33C DSCs work with Microchip's TA100 CryptoAutomotive™ security integrated circuit (IC) to enable robust security in automotive designs.
