    Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation announced the expansion of its smart gate drive optocoupler product line, the launch of a smart gate drive optocoupler with an output current of 2.5A---"TLP5222", which is a MOSFET or Power devices such as IGBTs provide isolated gate driver ICs with overcurrent protection, with built-in automatic recovery of protection operation.

     The TLP5222 continuously monitors the drain-source voltage (VDS) [1] or collector-emitter voltage (VCE) [2] of the power devices it drives. The built-in overcurrent detection and protection function detects any VDS or VCE rise due to overcurrent in the power device and performs a soft shutdown.

     In addition, this new optocoupler has a built-in auto-recovery function that resets the optocoupler to normal operation 25.5µs (typ) after triggering the protection operation. This simplifies the sequence setup in the controller. It also integrates isolated fault status feedback to send a fault signal to the controller once an overcurrent is detected, while an active Miller clamp function prevents short circuits in the upper and lower arms of the power devices [3], helping to simplify the design and Reduce external circuits.

    At the same time, the TLP5222 is packaged in SO16L, which ensures a creepage distance and clearance of 8mm (minimum), which is suitable for equipment that needs to achieve high insulation performance. In addition, its rated operating temperature range is -40°C to 110°C, making it suitable for various applications in harsh temperature environments, such as photovoltaic power generation systems and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

     The family also includes the TLP5212, TLP5214A and TLP5214. These three products do not have a built-in automatic recovery function, but can also be reset back to normal operation by inputting the signal of the LED, and the user can choose the appropriate product according to the specific use conditions.
